Writing Events May Be Just What the Novel Doctor Orders
Tired of: "Writing is a solitary pursuit"? Kick the habit with one of these writing events that connects you to other writers, either virtually or face to face. They may just be the hand up, or hand out, or kick in the pants you need. On this page, I'll post writing events I hear of or come across online. Some may be once in a lifetime, many will be yearly events you can join to get out of your rut and be inspired. Some will be close to home (or not even require you to leave home to attend), some will take place far from your daily routine. First off, because I'm writing this page in October, I dare you to challenge yourself with
National Novel Writing Month
. Write a complete novel in 30 days! Win friends and satisfaction. And if you don't manage the required 50,000 words this year, try again next year. Maybe you need help figuring out how to market your novel. Online events (webcasts) might be what you need. Some will be free, some will cost you. Choose whichever works. If you don't feel you're up to snuff at what you're writing, try a fiction writing seminar. It'll get you out of the house (and your pajamas) and into an entirely new frame of mind. Or, if there isn't a course near you, you could try a writing teleseminar. All you need is a phone and a notepad for taking notes. Maybe just a book signing would help. Rubbing elbows with someone who's published successfully never hurts. Or listening to a speaker give an inspirational talk. How about a live reading by an author? Hearing the words out loud will teach you loads about how to craft your own novel. If none of these suits you, tell me what you'd like to see, and I'll do my best to search out the writing event of your choice. (Use the contact me button to the left.) What are you waiting for? You don't have to do this all alone!
